Chelsea Green Breaks Silence On Controversial WWE Unreal Remarks
Chelsea Green has reacted to some comments on WWE Unreal that were not complimentary of her skills.
As a former 2-time WWE Women’s United States Champion on the SmackDown brand, Chelsea Green has been on a good run in the last three years of her WWE career.
In addition to holding the Women’s US Title twice, Green is also a current AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion with Ethan Page, although those titles are not defended that often.
Despite her success in WWE so far and her obvious talent as a television character, Green isn’t being pushed as a major women’s wrestler who is a serious contender for the WWE Women’s Title or the Women’s World Title. Instead, Green is often used to put over a WWE Women’s Champion like Jade Cargill, who recently beat Green on SmackDown in a few minutes.
While speaking on WWE Unreal Season 2, WWE Hall of Famer Michael Hayes, a longtime member of the creative team, discussed Green’s role in the company.
“Chelsea is so entertaining. But she is not built for, nor should she be in the Charlotte Flair role or Tiffany Stratton. Because Chelsea’s job is to help make those people.”
Responding to what Hayes wrote, the charismatic Green wrote: “And they say women are dramatic!!”
In another comment on social media, Green added: “It’s giving *Total Divas* but make it men.”
Chelsea Green Knows What Makes Her Special
In a recent interview about her place in the WWE landscape, Chelsea Green said she isn’t a “chosen one” in WWE, but noted that her relatability is why she is so successful as a WWE superstar.
“There’s a lot of chosen ones in wrestling, you see that happen, the machine has scooped you up and thrust you to the top, it’s amazing and some unbelievable stars come from it. But for me, my story is so different and relatable and I didn’t get everything handed to me, I was told no so many times.
There were a lot of people that told me there was nothing unique about me, and I figured out my niche and I think that’s really special and that’s what fans kind of attach to, like she is one of us.
When I go home, and I take my make-up off and I blend in at publics when I’m shopping for my groceries, I am just a normal girl. There isn’t necessarily anything special about me, but that’s what makes me special, is the relatability I think.”
Chelsea Green and her relatability will likely be a part of the Women’s Royal Rumble match. The WWE Royal Rumble takes place this Saturday, January 31st, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Here’s the lineup.
- Men’s Royal Rumble Match
- Undisputed WWE Championship: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Sami Zayn
- Women’s Royal Rumble Match
- AJ Styles vs. Gunther – If Styles loses, then he must retire
The Royal Rumble streams live on Saturday, January 31, at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT, exclusively on ESPN in the United States and Netflix internationally.
