WWE has provided a heartbreaking update on Cody Rhodes’ health following WrestleMania 42 Saturday.

The American Nightmare successfully retained his Undisputed WWE Championship last night against Randy Orton. However, he fell victim to a vicious attack from The Viper after the match.

The 14-time world champion punt-kicked Rhodes, legitimately injuring the second-generation superstar. After the show, Rhodes’ left eye was seen swollen shut as medics tended to him backstage.

Cody Rhodes Is Not Cleared To Compete After WWE WrestleMania 42 Saturday

During the WrestleMania Sunday Countdown show, Jackie Redmond provided an update on Cody Rhodes’ condition after last night’s injury at the hands of Randy Orton.

Redmond disclosed that The American Nightmare is not medically cleared, and there is currently no timetable for his return. She added that the Undisputed Champion was severely hurt and needed three sutures to the face and four staples to the back of the head. The backstage reporter also revealed that Rhodes’ eye was still completely shut due to severe injury in his orbital socket.

I’ll just start with this. I can confirm that Cody Rhodes is not medically cleared. And after speaking to medical staff, I can tell you the damage from that main event was severe. Afterwards, Cody Rhodes needed three sutures to the face and four staples to the back of the head. As for the punt that you just showed from Randy Orton, the impact to Cody’s orbital socket was so severe that his eye is still completely shut. So, again, Cody Rhodes not medically cleared and his timetable for return, as of today, Tess, is up in the air. If I hear anything further, I’ll be first to let you know.
