Booker T On Why AEW Should Have Stopped All Out Media Scrum After CM Punk Comments

Booker T

Booker T has shared his opinion on why Tony Khan should have shut down the All Out media conference after CM Punk went off on a rant.

The AEW All Out pay-per-view took place on Sunday, September 4 in Chicago with CM Punk winning back the AEW World Title from Jon Moxley in the main event. At the post-show press conference, Punk sat next to AEW’s Owner/President Tony Khan and trashed Colt Cabana, “Hangman” Adam Page and was also critical of AEW EVPs The Young Bucks & Kenny Omega. When Punk went back to his dressing room, he was confronted by The Young Bucks and Omega. which led to a big fight. Everybody involved in the situation was suspended including Punk’s friend Ace Steel, who was a producer in AEW.

It’s a story that has dominated the wrestling world for the past week due to how rare it is that so many key figures in a promotion would get into a backstage fight leading to multiple suspensions. It’s also possible that Punk may never return to AEW. Punk is also dealing with a torn triceps that was surgically repaired and will keep him out of the ring for the next eight months.

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T was recently interviewed by WrestlingInc with Booker trying to give some advice to Punk in a situation like that:

“I think somebody got to be the adult in the room. I think in the CM Punk situation, he’s dealing with a lot of young guys. Young guys who have pretty much wrote their own ticket, did it their way, and sometimes you got to go down to their level in order for them to come up to your level. You got to explain what your motive operandi is.”

Booker also talked about how Tony Khan should have done something after Punk was losing control at the press conference.

“I feel like Tony Khan, he had to step up and do something, especially after that press conference. Press conference perhaps should have been shut down. Someone should have maybe intervened and said, ‘Hey, we’re going to stop all questions right now,’ because you could see exactly where that thing was going.”

The master of the Spinarooni also praised Khan for doing the right thing by suspending the people involved in the locker room fight.

“I do think Tony Khan has done the right thing as far as saying, ‘Hey, I run this and until we can actually sort this thing out, you go home, you go home and then if we can figure it out, we’ll figure it out, but right now we got a show to do.”

On the September 7 edition of Dynamite, Khan stripped Punk of the AEW World Title and The Elite trio of Young Bucks & Kenny Omega were stripped of the AEW Trios Tag Team Titles. The names of Punk, The Young Bucks and Omega were not mentioned on last week’s Dynamite episode as the company moves ahead without them.
