After nearly missing a year of wrestling, Becky Lynch returned to WWE at WrestleMania 41.

However, her return came at the cost of another established superstar, who was scheduled to compete in a title match on Night 2 of the Show of Shows.

Bayley and Lyra Valkyria had challenged the then-Women’s Tag Team Champions Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez for their titles. But on Night 1, Bayley was attacked backstage as part of the storyline.

This attack paved the way for Becky Lynch’s return as she and Valkyria teamed up to defeat the women of The Judgment Day to become the new tag champions.

Appearing in Episode 4 of WWE: Unreal Season 2, Bayley called the moment bittersweet; although she was happy about Lynch’s return, she was not happy about sitting out of the company’s biggest premium live event.

Lynch, too, echoed The Role Model’s sentiments, stating that she deserved her time in the spotlight.

Bayley deserved to have a WrestleMania match, and I was taking her out. And really, right up until the last moment, I was like, “Should we maybe do this differently?”

WrestleMania’s like Christmas. You’re being good all year long so that you get the most amount of toys on Christmas Day. That’s how it works. It felt like I was The Grinch.

Becky Lynch Turned Heel Within 24 Hours

Despite the guilt, Becky Lynch ultimately replaced Bayley and received a massive pop from the fans in the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

After winning the titles, she and Lyra Valkyria competed in a return match on the following WWE Raw episode, where Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez regained their belts.

While Lynch offered Valkyria a shoulder of support, she viciously attacked her soon after, hitting her with multiple Manhandle slams.

Lynch has maintained the heel character to date, and currently holds the Women’s Intercontinental Championship in her second reign.
