More information has come to light surrounding Johnny Gargano making his surprise return on Raw.
The main event of the 2nd of October edition of Monday Night Raw saw GUNTHER put his Intercontinental Championship on the line against Tommaso Ciampa. The match was typically hard-hitting and at times brutal but after twenty minutes, GUNTHER dropped his challenger with two powerbombs before putting him to sleep to retain his gold.
However, things were far from over as GUNTHER left with his title, and his Imperium underlings Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci circled Ciampa. They assaulted the former NXT Champion before Johnny Gargano ran to the ring to make the save for his former tag team partner.
The duo once known as #DIY got the upper hand and it seems that they will be together as a unit again on WWE television moving forward.
When did WWE decide to have Johnny Gargano return?
PWInsider has given more insight into Gargano’s return to WWE television after a five month absence. The report noted that although Gargano had returned to the ring in July and September on live events, the decision to bring him back to TV was a late one.
The report notes that the plan to have Johnny Wrestling appear on Raw was only locked in towards the end of the previous week and Gargano travelled to Raw in San Jose early on the day of the show itself and was kept hidden from view.
