AEW Star Needs Surgery; Pulled From Tournament

Tony Khan will be forced into changing plans for his upcoming AEW Tag Team Title tournament with one star now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Sting ended his career with one last win at Revolution as he and Darby Allin successfully defended the AEW Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks. Tony Khan soon vacated the title as a result of Sting’s retirement announcing a tournament would be taking place to crown new champions.

The Young Bucks, Orange Cassidy & Trent Beretta, The Infantry, and FTR look set to be part of the tournament that will kick off on the 16th of March edition of Collision. But one team that won’t be part of it despite plans that they would be is The WorkHorsemen thanks to a serious injury suffered by Anthony Henry on a non-AEW show.

AEW Star Out Of Tag Title Tournament

Taking to social media, Anthony Henry revealed he had suffered a broken jaw that required surgery and revealed he and partner JD Drake were going to be announced as part of the upcoming tournament:

Update: Absolutely gutted. In last night’s match against Bryan Keith, I took a knee strike that broke my jaw. The #workhorsemen had some exciting things coming up. One of which was the @AEW tag team tournament, which we can now not be involved in. I will have surgery soon.

Henry then followed up noting that he’ll be absent from social media for a while as he recovers:

I honestly don’t know how I will take this. I’ve never had an injury like this. I don’t know what to do without wrestling, and my biggest fear is that it derails any upcoming plans for Drake and I. I may be absent from here for a while. I appreciate all the fans who support us!

The WorkHorsemen have recently been featured on ROH television but they can boast that they faced off with Sting as he wound down his career as The Icon and Darby Allin picked up a win over Drake and Henry on the 6th of January 2024 edition of Collision.
