AEW Is Working On Signing The Elite To Long Term Deals

The Elite AEW

It seems as though The Elite trio of Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks are likely to stay in AEW for a long time, according to a new report.

When AEW launched in January 2019, The Young Bucks tag team of Matt & Nick Jackson were two of the four Executive Vice Presidents in the company under the ownership of Tony Khan. Cody Rhodes was also an EVP, but he chose to leave AEW when his deal expired in early 2022 and he’s in AEW now. The fourth EVP is Kenny Omega, who officially joined AEW a few months later when his NJPW deal had expired.

Since AEW launched, Omega has been the AEW World Champion while the Young Bucks have been AEW Tag Team Champions. As a trio, The Elite (Omega and The Young Bucks) have been AEW Trios Tag Team Champions twice.

The Elite trio also was suspended for nearly two months after a backstage fight with CM Punk and Ace Steel at All Out last September.

At AEW Revolution this past Sunday, The Elite lost the AEW Trios Tag Team Titles to the House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King & Buddy Matthews).

There have been a lot of questions about The Elite’s contract status in AEW with some people believing that Omega could go to WWE some day if his contract expires. However, the latest update from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer notes that AEW is trying to sign The Elite to long-term deals before they became free agents.

“AEW is working on signing the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega to new long-term deals well before they become free agents. With the Bucks, while they may do well in WWE, it’s not guaranteed, and they will have a better schedule in AEW meaning more time with the family and also less matches and can do their style.”

“With Omega, he doesn’t have kids and he would likely get a major push and would have no end to having fresh opponents. It would also close the door to Japan that he’s waited years to re-open. But he did at least consider and have talks with WWE 2018-19 and wasn’t negative about WWE at all while making his choice to go to AEW. Khan did say he hoped Omega would be in the company for a long time to come.”

Considering Meltzer is close with The Elite and The Young Bucks even have a signature move called the Meltzer Driver, it’s probably not a surprise that Meltzer was the one to reveal this information.

The Elite are in a big tag team match next Wednesday, March 15th on Dynamite when they challenge House of Black for the Trios Tag Team Titles while The Jericho Appreciation Society (Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia) are also involved to make it a triple threat match.
