AEW Legend Tried To Talk Tony Khan Out Of Major Title Change
An AEW legend made a shocking revelation about Tony Khan.
Dustin Rhodes has been with All Elite Wrestling since the company’s inception. He has been a regular feature on Dynamite and Collision as well as Ring of Honor. Dustin reached the pinnacle of his run in the Jacksonville-based promotion last year at All In when he won the TNT Championship.
However, this win came as a shock to many fans since Dustin wasn’t even supposed to compete for the title. It was originally supposed to be Adam Cole defending the TNT Championship against Kyle Fletcher. However, Cole injured himself before the match and relinquished his title. Therefore, a four-way match between Dustin Rhodes, Sammy Guevara, Daniel Garcia, and Kyle Fletcher took place for the vacated title. Kyle was the favorite to win the match. However, it was the former Goldust who emerged victorious. The Natural has made a huge revelation about this match.
Dustin Rhodes tried talking Tony Khan out of booking him to win the match
During a recent appearance on Tony Schiavone’s What Happened When podcast, Dustin Rhodes said that his winning the TNT Championship at All In was something he had not expected. He praised Kyle Fletcher before revealing that he tried to talk Tony Khan out of putting the title on him. However, the AEW boss would not budge on his decision to make Dustin the TNT Champion.
“That day, I can’t explain it. It was not expected. Due to the circumstances, I understood. With the way they were building Kyle Fletcher, who is a machine and an unbelievable talent. I figured…I tried to talk Tony out of it. He said, ‘No.’ I was like, ‘Okay.’ I had a little run with it. I only had one successful match against Moriarty, and the next one was Kyle Fletcher,” said Dustin. [H/T Fightful]
Dustin Rhodes held the TNT Championship for a short time before he dropped the title to Kyle Fletcher in a Chicago Street Fight on the 31st July, 2025 episode of Collision. Since this loss, Dustin has been out of action due to a severe knee injury. It remains to be seen when he will be able to make his in-ring return and if he will go after the TNT Championship again.
