Adam Copeland & Christian Cage Called Out After Winning AEW Tag Team Titles
A former rival of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage is hoping for one more match with the new AEW Tag Team Champions.
The opening match at AEW Double or Nothing in Queens, New York, was a huge grudge match that saw FTR’s Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler defend the AEW World Tag Team Titles against the legendary team of Adam Copeland & Christian Cage.
It wasn’t a regular tag team match, though. It was an “I Quit Match” where the losing team had to give up. There was also a stipulation that if Cope and Cage lost, they wouldn’t be able to team up again.
Late in the match, FTR’s manager Stokely interfered, so Cope’s wife Beth Copeland took care of him. FTR lit a table on fire, Cash tried a Spear off the apron through the table, Beth avoided it, and Cash tackled Stokely through the fire table on the floor.
After that, Beth hit a low blow on Dax, Cage hit a low blow on Dax, and Cope hit a Piledriver on Dax. Cage and Cope put Dax in a Sharpshooter/Crossface combo. Beth found Spike the bat with nails in it, so Cope put the nails in Dax’s bald head. Dax: “I quit!” That meant that Cope and Cage were the new AEW Tag Team Champions.
Following the match, Adam Copeland & Christian Cage celebrated as the new AEW World Tag Team Champions. AEW announcer Excalibur mentioned it was their 8th Tag Team Title reign as a team. They couldn’t say it on TV, but the first seven title reigns were in WWE when they were known as Edge & Christian.
On social media, the legendary Matt Hardy challenged Cope & Cage to a tag team match against The Hardy Boyz.
“Congrats to @Christian4Peeps & @RatedRCope on becoming @AEW Tag Team Champs. Great stuff! Not sure where, not sure when.. But we’ve got ONE more night of magic left in us.”
It’s a nice thought, but since the Hardys work for TNA, which is associated with WWE, it may be tough for them to wrestle AEW’s Cope & Cage.

There is a long history between Cope & Cage and The Hardys, dating back to their early days in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The two teams will forever be remembered as men who made the ladder match even more famous and also created the legendary Tables, Ladders & Chairs matches.
Since all four wrestler are active, the match “could” conceivably happen, but the legalities may not work out in their favor any time soon.
Adam Copeland Doesn’t Regret Going From WWE To AEW
After 25 years as WWE’s Edge, Adam Copeland jumped to AEW in late 2023 and said in a recent interview that he feels like he made the right decision.
“My three best friends in the industry work there, and they all say they’re having an absolute blast — sign me up! It was a no-brainer.
I’d kind of worked everyone there was to work in WWE — that I wanted to.
Obviously, there are still some [I didn’t work with], but I looked at AEW and the most glaring one I’d never wrestled [was] Samoa Joe. That’s crazy.”
