WWE Rumor: Roman Reigns’ Next Rivalry Will Be Against The Miz

TJR Wrestling

Roman Reigns needs a new rival on WWE’s Raw brand since Braun Strowman is out of action for about two months with an elbow injury, so the next man up is The Miz according to WrestlingInc’s Billi Bhatti.

The report notes that Reigns was scheduled to feud with The Miz after Extreme Rules, which is on June 4. The scheduled main event for Extreme Rules was going to be Reigns vs. Strowman in an Ambulance Match with Strowman getting the win there to set up his July 9 Universal Title match against Brock Lesnar at the poorly named Great Balls of Fire show on July 9. After the Strowman feud, Reigns was going to move on to feud with The Miz. Now that Strowman is off for a couple of months, the Reigns/Miz feud has been moved up.

Miz vs. Reigns is likely going to be an Intercontinental Title feud as well. That’s why Dean Ambrose is defending the IC Title against The Miz this Monday on Raw instead of at Extreme Rules as was expected. The plan is for Reigns to eventually win the IC Title from Miz so that WWE can push the idea that Reigns has won every singles title in WWE (WWE Title, US Title, IC Title) except the Universal Title, which would lead to the rumored WrestleMania 34 match against Brock Lesnar.

It’s possible that Reigns picks up his feud with Strowman in a few months when Strowman is healthy, but for the next month or two it looks like Miz vs. Reigns will be one of the main feuds on Raw.

In other Reigns news, on live events he is scheduled to face Bray Wyatt in main event matches. Those plans could change as well if WWE wants him to work with Miz on the road.

TJR Thoughts: It could be an interesting rivalry since Miz is a great talker that is arguably the best heel in WWE and has been for about a year now. I’m not sure if the matches will be that great, but they could surprise us. I’m not a huge fan of the idea of booking Reigns the way WWE currently does with him in a face role, but they seem intent in staying that way with no change coming soon.

I should note also this is the first time we’ve used a Bhatti report on this site. I’m always leery of new sources, but Bhatti was right about Jinder Mahal becoming number one contender to the WWE Title about a month ago and about some other things, so I decided to run with it. I also put “Rumor” in the title because these things can always change.
