WWE News: Smackdown Tag Team Title Match Added to WrestleMania Backlash on May 16

A new match has been announced for the WWE WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view on Sunday, May 16. The SD Tag Team Champions Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler will defend their titles against the father-son duo Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio. If Rey and Dominik win the titles, they will be the first father-son duo in WWE history to become Tag Team Champions.

Here’s the official announcement from WWE.com:

At WrestleMania Backlash, Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio will attempt to become the first father and son Tag Team Champions in WWE history when they challenge SmackDown Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode.

Since coming together as a tandem, the natural chemistry and fast-paced athleticism of the Mysterios has helped them flourish as a tag team and slowly evolve into top contenders for the gold.

You may not like Roode & Ziggler, but you have to respect their ability as champions. In addition to both Superstars having an exceptional arsenal of maneuvers to pull from respectfully, they have shown time and time again as a team that they will do whatever it takes to emerge victorious and keep the illustrious titles in their possession. Without question, conquering the Dirty Dawgs will be no easy task.

Don’t miss WrestleMania Backlash, Sunday, May 16, beginning at 7 ET/4 PT, exclusively on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network everywhere else.

It’s certainly possible that a tag team title change will happen at WrestleMania Backlash. If It was up to me, it would have happened at WrestleMania, but WWE didn’t even put these guys on the show at WrestleMania. That was disappointing.

Here’s what the WrestleMania Backlash lineup looks like right now:

WWE Championship: Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Braun Strowman

Smackdown Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley

Raw Women’s Championship: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair

Smackdown Tag Team Championships: Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode (c) vs. Rey & Dominik Mysterio

The Universal Title match will probably be Roman Reigns defending the title against Cesaro, who will probably beat Seth Rollins on Smackdown this week. Other than that, there will probably be another two or three matches to fill out the card.

I’ll be back for a live Smackdown review later tonight.
