WWE Unreal’s new episode highlights the creative struggles behind R-Truth’s transformation in 2025.

R-Truth, who is largely a comedic clown-type character on WWE TV, briefly underwent a major character change in Money In The Bank 2025, where he attacked John Cena, making a heel-like character shift.

The following Monday Night on Raw, R-Truth cut a promo addressing himself by his real name, Ron Killings, and had shaved off his hair. He explained to the crowd that he was sick of being R-truth and now he would go by Ron Killings.

However, days later, on SmackDown, John Cena hit Truth with the WWE title belt during their bout and won it. WWE creative dropped the new angle for Killings after this, and he went back to being R-Truth again. He has since reverted to his comedic persona, and the Ron Killings idea hasn’t been mentioned on WWE TV again.

WWE Unreal Episode Highlights The Arguments Between Triple H And Road Dogg In Creative Regarding R-Truth’s Character Change.

On the January 20th episode of WWE: Unreal, a dramatic exchange in the writers’ room between Road Dogg and Triple H is revealed.

Road Dogg says that R-Truth himself pitched the idea of cutting his hair, saying he would unveil the new look before matches to add a dramatic effect.

Yeah, he wants to shave his head for the match. Like, to reveal it when they’re face-to-face for the introductions—he takes his hood off and his head’s shaved. He wants to cut his hair.

Triple H, on the other hand, believed that WWE had very little time to build Truth up as a dangerous character that John Cena needed to be afraid of, and also didn’t think that it made any sense.

Why? Yeah, it doesn’t make any sense. What am I supposed to think of that? Like, ‘Oh look, Truth cut his hair.’

We’re trying to, in a week—so today’s Wednesday—by Saturday we’re going to tell them, ‘This is an all-new R-Truth. John Cena should be afraid.’

Road Dogg voices his frustrations over how the Cena-Truth story was playing out, as he felt it had lost all direction. The conversation between him and Triple H quickly gets heated, and the creative struggles are apparent with this behind-the-scenes look.

With the John Cena story, this is why I’ve been very scared to pitch anything for this story, everything just feels horrible and like s***, and I don’t want to pitch anything else for it. I can’t wait for John to f***** beat him, to tell you the truth.

Well, no. We should do something. Don’t f****** cut me off—let them get mad. I don’t understand what we’re supposed to do here… It hurts my heart. So let’s move on.
