WWE Star Admits He Was Tipped To Fail With Money In The Bank
One WWE star has admitted that everyone expected them to fail when they captured Money In The Bank.
Money In The Bank has become a firm part of the WWE calendar alongside the likes of classic shows such as WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble.
The match was first introduced to the company at WrestleMania 21 in 2005 and saw six WWE stars compete for the briefcase that gave them a title shot, any place, any time, for one calendar year. Edge won the very first Money In The Bank match and set the template for surprise cash-ins when he traded his briefcase for a title shot against John Cena at New Year’s Revolution in January 2006.
Cena had survived a brutal Elimination Chamber match to retain his WWE Championship, but then Edge cashed in and won the gold.
The Miz Expected To Fail With WWE Money In The Bank
Not every WWE star who has won Money In The Bank has been so lucky. But one star tipped to fail did exactly the opposite.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, The Miz – who first won Money In The Bank in 2010 – confessed that everyone expected him to be the first failed cash-in:
When I won the Money in the Bank, everyone was like, ‘He’ll be the first to lose.’ As soon as I won it, ‘He’ll be the first to lose.’ There’s no doubt. There’s no way The Miz is going to be WWE Champion.
However, that was not the case. The Miz successfully cashed in to win the WWE Championship from Randy Orton in November 2010. He then ended up in the main event of WrestleMania 27 when he successfully defended that title against John Cena with more than a little help from The Rock.
In 2020, he did not win the Money In The Bank match but ended up with the briefcase when he defeated Otis. Once again, he was successful with his cash-in as he dethroned Drew McIntyre as WWE Champion.
