WWE Smackdown Heading To Puerto Rico
Backlash won’t be the only WWE show to emanate from Puerto Rico in 2023.
According to a statement released by WWE earlier today, the last episode of SmackDown before Backlash will also take place in Puerto Rico.
This edition of SmackDown will take place on Friday May 5th while Backlash will take place the following night on May 6th. Both shows will emanate from the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum of Puerto Rico in San Juan.
The last time WWE held a PPV/PLE from Puerto Rico was back in 2005 with New Year’s Revolution. That event was headlined by the third-ever Elimination Chamber match, which was contested for the then-vacant World Heavyweight Championship. The participants in that match were Chris Benoit, Edge, Triple H, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, and Batista. Additionally, Shawn Michaels was the guest referee.
Unlike the previous two editions of Backlash, the 2023 edition doesn’t include ‘WrestleMania in the name’ and is simply going by the standalone name that has been used one and off since 1999.
Additionally, Backlash will be hosted by Bad Bunny, a recording artist who has made a handful of appearance in WWE matches in the past. Though, it has not been confirmed whether or not he will also appear on the SmackDown before Backlash.
