WWE Reportedly Looking To Strike Special Deal With Xavier Woods
Following his shocking departure from the promotion, WWE is looking to renegotiate a special deal with Xavier Woods, according to the latest report.
After his 16-year run in the WWE, Xavier Woods has departed from the Stamford-based promotion along with Kofi Kingston of the New Day. The New Day is considered one of the greatest tag teams and stables in the history of pro wrestling. Both Kingston and Woods were sidelined for the past few months until the news of their departure broke.
It was reported that Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston were asked to take a pay cut on their deals, which would’ve lasted until 2030. However, Xavier and Kofi reportedly refused to restructure their deal and decided to leave instead. Meanwhile, WWE is trying to get Xavier Woods to sign a special new deal following his departure, according to a new report.
WWE is trying to retain Xavier Woods by offering him an interesting deal
While Xavier Woods had a successful career in the ring during his time in the WWE, he also helped the company by handling their video game channel, ‘UpUpDownDown,’ along with Tyler Breeze.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live recently, Bryan Alvarez reported that WWE is trying to get Xavier Woods to sign a new Tyler Breeze-like deal, in which he will be paid for the video game stuff. However, it’s unclear whether Woods will accept the reported offer:
I’ve heard this from a lot of people this weekend, that I do believe that WWE is trying to retain Woods with, as it was referred to repeatedly, the Tyler Breeze deal, which is basically he gets paid money to do stuff for the video game. And I don’t know if he will accept that offer.”
Alvarez further noted that while it’s likely that the New Day could be heading to AEW, it’s not a foregone conclusion, as WWE is reportedly trying to retain Woods:
I don’t know what’s going on in his head, but he might. So it is not a foregone conclusion that both of The New Day are going to AEW. It’s likely going to happen, I would say. But there are things being done where WWE is trying to retain him for other things.” [h/t WrestlingNews.co]
