WWE Reportedly Considering Bringing Back Ex-United States Champion
A former United States Champion could be back in WWE.
The sports entertainment juggernaut’s roster has undergone major cuts following WrestleMania 42. However, it looks like the company is finally looking to bolster its ranks once again.
Baron Corbin’s 12-year WWE stint came to an end in November 2024. He has competed in promotions like Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), Major League Wrestling (MLW), and more, since then.
In fact, Corbin even wrestled in a dark match in AEW before the January 21, 2026, edition of Dynamite. He teamed up with Hadar Horvitz, Ori Gold, and Martin Stone to take on Austin Gunn, Billy Gunn, Brady Booker, and Elijah Dragon. Sadly, Corbin and Co. ended up losing the bout.
While speaking on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that there have been heavy talks backstage about bringing back Baron Corbin to WWE.
Probably back in WWE. I’ve not heard it’s a done deal, but I know it’s been talked about, yes.
According to Meltzer, Baron Corbin could find himself in a storyline with Danhausen if the reported return does happen. For those unaware, Danhausen was seen trying to revive someone on the latest episode of SmackDown, possibly the Gingerbread Man, whose costume he stole recently.
Dave Meltzer added that a deal between Baron Corbin and WWE might already be done, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
On the SmackDown show, when Danhausen was talking about something bigger, my gut was that that’s who it is. That’s just my speculation, but I just know that he’s been talked with about being brought in.
It might even be done, but I haven’t had it officially confirmed to me it’s done. But I have 100% confirmed that it’s been heavily talked about. [H/T: Wrestling Observer]

Another update on Baron Corbin’s possible move to WWE
Fightful Select also backed up Dave Meltzer’s report, stating that Baron Corbin’s WWE return has been internally speculated for the last couple of weeks. One source even mentioned it as “an out of left field thing” they heard recently.
It was added that while Corbin works for MLW and other promotions, he is not under an MLW contract. Interestingly, Fightful Select had no update on whether Baron Corbin’s SkyScrappers partner, Donovan Dijak, could also make his comeback in the sports entertainment juggernaut.
According to WWE sources, Corbin has maintained a positive relationship with the Stamford-based promotion, hence, him returning to the company won’t be that surprising.
