Update On WWE Planning To Do Next Draft In 2023

WWE Draft

The next WWE Draft isn’t expected to happen in the fall like in previous because there are plans in place to wait until after WrestleMania next year.

It was reported on August 13th that WWE might be planning to do the draft shortly after the Clash at the Castle, which is on September 3, so it would have been within a week or two after that show. At that point, there were reports that superstars from both brands might be on both shows to find out when they were getting drafted.

In a new update on WWE’s draft plans, Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp is reporting that the wait for the next draft could be a lot further away.

There is apparently a new plan in place by WWE officials since many Raw stars are no longer booked to appear on the Smackdown episode after Clash at the Castle. In the original report, superstars thought the draft might happen that week.

It has apparently been relayed to talent by USA Network sources that there are no plans to do a draft soon. Instead, the next WWE Draft isn’t expected to happen until after WrestleMania 39 in 2023. With that said, it’s important to note that WWE hasn’t announced or confirmed any firm date in terms of an announcement for the draft.

WWE has held drafts in the month of October since 2019 when Smackdown moved to Fridays on Fox. The reason for that is because that’s when Smackdown moved from Tuesdays back to Fridays with USA Network wanting their own roster for Raw and Fox wanting their own roster for Smackdown. They held the draft in the following two years (2020 and 2021) in October as well.

As is always the case with stuff like this, plans can and do change sometimes.
