Major Surprise Revealed About On-Screen WWE Kiss: “She Loved It”
This infamous on-screen kiss between two legendary stars came as a shock to WWE fans when it happened.
WWE had some storylines and on-screen incidents in the 2000s that would make fans’ jaws drop in shock.
Towards the end of the 2000s, Edge (Adam Copeland) was the company’s biggest star and heel. The Rated-R Superstar was also supported by SmackDown’s general manager at the time, Vickie Guerrero, because she had a soft spot for him. Vickie, who is the widow of late WWE legend Eddie Guerrero, began an on-screen union with Edge during this period.
Together, they made the lives of stars like The Undertaker, Batista, Jeff Hardy, and John Cena extremely difficult.
WWE’s Bruce Prichard Talks About Edge and Vickie’s Kiss
WWE Executive Bruce Prichard recently said on his podcast, Something To Wrestle, that he had approached former WWE CEO Vince McMahon with the idea of Edge and Vickie Guerrero kissing on screen five minutes before they went live.
McMahon loved it but wasn’t sure if the stars would agree. The pair agreed, however, and Prichard recalls how the kiss shocked viewers as Vickie was the widow of a beloved WWE Legend. Prichard called it “good business” and “good TV”.
I even go back to the Edge thing with [Vickie Guerrero]—the kiss in Tampa. About five minutes before we did it, I was staring off into the wild blue yonder, went over to ask Vince [McMahon] first, ‘What if, man, they just passionately kissed at the end of this?’ ‘Hmmm [mimicking Vince’s voice] God, that’d be great! You think they’ll do it?’ So, I’m getting ready to go find out.
I asked Vickie first. She loved it. I asked Edge second—they had no rehearsal. We went live, and they went for it. And I think that moment in time made the Vickie-Edge relationship over the top. They were so shocked that this widow is now hooking up with this young, brash playboy guy. It was good business, good TV.

The Edge and Vickie Guerrero storyline peaked in mid-2008, and the pair broke up that summer. During this time, Edge had begun a lengthy feud with The Undertaker in which Taker was banished from WWE after Edge won a TLC match against him. However, after Guerrero and Edge broke up, Taker and the Rated-R Superstar faced each other in a Hell in a Cell match at Summerslam 2008.
Edge and Vickie would later make up for a while before becoming bitter rivals in 2011 when Guerrero began managing Dolph Ziggler.
