WWE News: Two Title Matches Announced for Extreme Rules on July 19

TJR Wrestling

The first two matches have been announced for the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view on WWE Network on July 19. They are both championship matches.

WWE Championship: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

Raw Women’s Championship: Asuka (c) vs. Sasha Banks

The McIntyre match was set up when he was doing a show opening promo where he was interrupted by Dolph Ziggler. We found out that Ziggler was traded to Raw with his tag team partner Robert Roode for AJ Styles, who was traded to Smackdown. Ziggler has lost a lot of matches in the last few months, especially to Otis, yet he’s getting a title shot as a way to make him look like a threat on Raw. It’s similar to last year when Ziggler got WWE Title matches against Kofi Kingston and failed to beat him. It will likely be a win for McIntyre.

Asuka is facing Banks for the Raw Women’s Championship because Banks challenged her after Banks and Bayley won their Women’s Tag Team Title match. Even though Banks is a Smackdown wrestler, she gets to be on Raw since she’s a Tag Team Champion. WWE has not made it known what would happen if Banks wins the Raw Women’s Title. Does she become mainly a Raw wrestler after that even when losing the Tag Team Titles? They will need to clarify that, yet probably won’t because WWE rarely pays attention to the small details. It will likely be a

Other matches that could be taking place at Extreme Rules based on current Raw storylines:

* Randy Orton vs. Big Show – This seems very likely.

* Seth Rollins vs. Rey Mysterio. They could save that for SummerSlam and maybe do Rollins, Murphy and Austin Theory vs. Aleister Black, Humberto Carrillo and Dominik Mysterio in his debut match.

* The Street Profits defending the Raw Tag Team Championships vs. Andrade and Angel Garza might happen. Perhaps a three way with Viking Raiders in the mix too.

* Apollo Crews defending the US Title against Bobby Lashley is a possibility as well.

From the Smackdown side, some likely matches are:

* Universal Champion Braun Strowman (c) vs. Bray Wyatt, who may be in the 2014-15 Wyatt look.

* Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus – This seems very likely with a stipulation.

* AJ Styles defending the Intercontinental Championship vs. Matt Riddle. Since Riddle beat Styles clean on Smackdown last week, I think they’ll have a title match at Extreme Rules. Perhaps a three-way with Daniel Bryan involved.

* The New Day defending the Smackdown Tag Team Championships vs. Cesaro and Shinsuke. Since Cesaro and Nakamura won non-title two weeks ago, there will probably be title match soon.

It’s unlikely that every match listed above will happen, but I think most of them will. Since the PPV is Extreme Rules, there will likely be a few stipulation matches as well.
