WWE News: Former Announcer Todd Pettengill Featured in NXT Takeover In Your House Preview Video, Possible Role

TJR Wrestling

There was a familiar name from WWE’s past that was used in a video to promote WWE NXT Takeover In Your House. If you watched WWE during the mid-1990s, Todd Pettengill is a former WWE announcer that was all over WWE programming as an interviewer, host and many other roles. Pettengill worked for WWE from 1993 to 1997 basically taking over some of the responsibilities that “Mean” Gene Okerlund had before he left for WCW.

The reason WWE has utilized Pettengill is because he was a big part of WWE when the company launched the In Your House in 1995 PPV theme (it’s the 25 year anniversary of In Your House), so it’s a nice case of nostalgia to have Pettengill involved.

In the video, Todd Pettengill said:

“Hey everybody this is Todd Pettengill, and we are just days away from having a house party that would make Kid ‘n Play jealous. This Sunday, as the doors to our house remain temporarily closed, the Superstars of NXT take over your house with an event 25 years in the making.”

You can check out the video below where Pettengill promoted the NXT Takeover In Your House event.

It was reported by PWInsider that the above video is “likely not the only presence Pettengill will have in relation to Sunday’s WWE Network broadcast.”

That doesn’t reveal much, but it also suggests that we may be seeing Pettengill on the live Takeover In Your House broadcast on Sunday night. It would be a cool dose of nostalgia to see Pettengill on the show.

Pettengill was a radio host on WPLJ 95.5 FM in New York City for 27 years until the radio station closed down in May 2019. Pettengill current works on his website HeyTodd.com with audio and video content.

Pettengill was also a part of WWE’s Watchalong edition of the Royal Rumble back in January of this year. Pettengill also appears as a guest on WWE’s The Bump Youtube show recently on the same day that WWE announced the In Your House Takeover concept, which probably wasn’t an accident. When that happened, I figured Pettengill would be a part of the event.

It was also reported by Wrestlevotes on Twitter that there will be a nostalgia theme to the NXT Takeover In Your House event.

The NXT Takeover In Your House lineup on Sunday night looks like this:

NXT Championship: Adam Cole (c) vs. The Velveteen Dream

NXT Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Io Shirai

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Karrion Kross (with Scarlett)

NXT North American Championship: Keith Lee (c) vs. Johnny Gargano

Finn Bálor vs. Damian Priest

Tegan Nox, Shotzi Blackheart and Mia Yim vs. Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez
