WWE Locker Room Reaction To Expected Ex-AEW Champion’s Signing
The WWE locker room could well be looking at the signing of this former AEW star.
AEW star Powerhouse Hobbs was removed from the company’s roster page, confirming his exit post the January 17th episode of Collision.
Hobbs wrestled his final match with the Jacksonville-based promotion on this episode, losing the AEW World Trios Championships with his trios teammates, Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata.
Speculation has been bubbling about Hobbs going to WWE, and although it seems likely after he refused to renew his AEW contract, nothing has been made official yet.
Stars from both promotions have made jumps in the past from one to the other. The rate at which WWE stars were leaving and joining AEW in 2021 and 2022 was quite high. When this happens, wrestlers currently working on the main roster worry about losing their spots to the incoming stars.
The tension between the two promotions has diluted in recent months, but the WWE locker room could have some opinions about incoming stars from the rival promotion.
Will WWE Wrestlers Feel Like They’ll Lose Their Spot To AEW Talent?
In a recent Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp discussed how the locker room may react to losing their spots to stars jumping in from AEW, saying that there have been no direct complaints from WWE talent yet, but how the Stamford-based promotion handles new potential signings like Hobbs and what level of push he is given, could decide how much heat rises in the locker room.
Well, it’s not with the same frequency as the former WWE wrestlers coming into AEW in 2021 and 2022. But I can tell you back then, AEW talent were happy to have people in there but also wanted to make sure that their spots were secured—and for many of them, they weren’t, as we’ve seen in recent years.
I haven’t heard of any direct complaints from WWE talent as of now. But Hobbs hasn’t debuted, so it’s tough to say what his situation will be. I expect him to go to the main roster. If he hops the line, I’m sure some people will be jealous, but that isn’t exclusive to any company. Really.
