WWE Announces Edge vs. AJ Styles Rematch at WrestleMania Backlash

It has been announced that Edge will face AJ Styles at WWE WrestleMania Backlash in a highly anticipated rematch from WrestleMania 38.

The WrestleMania 38 match saw the conniving Edge pick up the win after his new ally Damian Priest appeared at ringside to distract Styles enough that when AJ jumped off the ropes, Edge met him with a Spear. Edge won by pinfall right after that.

Since WrestleMania 38, Edge has been joined at the hip by Priest while talking about how Edge sits at the top of the “mountain of omnipotence.” Last week on Raw, Priest was wrestling Styles and then the match stopped after Priest posed in the ring with a purple light. It was a bizarre ending to a match.

Last night on Raw, Edge did a backstage promo while sitting on a chair with Priest by his side. Edge explained his reasoning for his actions saying that the fans made him become this way while also noting that he has a history of darkness as a member of The Brood and the Ministry of Darkness (stables from 1998-99). Edge noted that Priest didn’t get any credit last year when he teamed with Bad Bunny while this year Priest was left off the WrestleMania card, so that’s why Priest has joined him. Edge issued a challenge to Styles for a rematch at WrestleMania Backlash on Sunday, May 8th.

Styles was interviewed about what Edge said and Styles quickly accepted the challenge for a match. Moments after Styles accepted Edge’s challenge, the room went dark, there was mysterious purple light and Styles was attacked by Edge as well as Priest. The dominating duo of Edge & Priest trapped AJ’s left arm against some sort of small door in the locker room and slammed the door shut on AJ’s left arm repeatedly. It will likely mean that Styles will go into WrestleMania Backlash with a left arm injury.

Edge vs. Styles is the fourth match announced for WrestleMania Backlash. It’s also the third match that will be a rematch from WrestleMania 38. That’s because Seth Rollins will be looking for revenge against Cody Rhodes while Rhea Ripley will get another shot at Charlotte Flair’s Smackdown Women’s Title, this time in an “I Quit” Match.

The next WWE Premium Live Event is called WrestleMania Backlash on Sunday, May 8th. Here’s what we know so far:

* Cody Rhodes vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins

* Winners Take All Tag Team Championship Unification Match: RK-Bro (Randy Orton & Riddle) vs. The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso)

* Smackdown Women’s Championship – I Quit Match: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Ronda Rousey

* Edge vs. AJ Styles

You can watch WrestleMania Backlash streaming live on Sunday, May 8, at 8 ET/5 PT on Peacock in the United States and on WWE Network everywhere else.
