WWE Creative Slip Up Gets Exposed After Drew McIntyre Vs Cody Rhodes WWE Title Match Announcement
This fan has noticed a glaring loophole in the WWE Championship picture following Nick Aldis’ latest announcement.
Drew McIntyre is the Undisputed WWE Champion, and he won the title from Cody Rhodes after defeating him in a Three Stages of Hell match on SmackDown in January.
In the weeks leading up to that match, amidst a heated feud, McIntyre had certain stipulations for Rhodes, and a contract would be signed with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis.
McIntyre announced on SmackDown the week after his title win that one major stipulation was that Cody Rhodes wouldn’t get a rematch and would have to work his way back up the ladder and earn his shot like everyone else.
On Feb 28 at Elimination Chamber, Rhodes was part of a 6-man battle to determine the #1 contender for Drew’s title at WrestleMania 42.
Randy Orton eventually won the bout and secured his spot, but it wasn’t without additional drama. McIntyre interfered and attacked Rhodes yet again, similar to how he has in the past weeks, to try to thwart Rhodes’ chances of winning and getting a title shot.
After everything that unfolded, Nick Aldis confronted Drew McIntyre in the same PLE’s post-show and announced a title match between McIntyre and Rhodes next week on SmackDown as punishment to McIntyre for his actions.
Fan Calls Out WWE Title Storyline Loophole
A fan who runs a wrestling-related account on X noted that a contract was signed saying that Cody Rhodes won’t get a direct title shot again, but now Aldis’ announcement goes against this clause.
The fan, along with many others, pointed out to pivots that WWE is making as per their convenience, rendering older statements like the one from McIntyre’s SmackDown promo meaningless.
So this absolutely means nothing now? A literal contract that was signed?

Some fans, however, came to WWE’s defense, saying that it does make sense as McIntyre went too far with trying to stop Cody from getting a title shot, which led Nick Aldis to make the decision he made.
