WWE Reportedly Changed Plans For Men’s Royal Rumble Match
The original plans for the Men’s Royal Rumble match were apparently changed by WWE management.
If you watch WWE Unreal on Netflix, you know that many times throughout the year, plans for storylines change by the time the shows air.
The Men’s Royal Rumble match in Riyadh saw Roman Reigns emerge as the victor, last eliminating Gunther to get the win. Going into the match, Reigns was seen as one of the two favorites in the match, along with the former Intercontinental Champion, Bron Breakker.
Bron Breakker entered #2 in the Royal Rumble, but he was attacked in the aisle by a dreaded masked man, who hit him with a Stomp on the floor. Breakker was put back in the ring, and the #1 entrant, Oba Femi, eliminated him, so Breakker barely got to be in the match.
WWE Planned To Have Bron Breakker Win Men’s Royal Rumble
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that at one point, Bron Breakker was going to win the Men’s Royal Rumble, but that changed because of what happened to the WWE Title on the SmackDown brand.
“The injury to Rollins caused changes, as they went with Punk as champion with the idea of a three step program with Bron Breakker getting a title match on the Raw Netflix anniversary show and losing, coming back and winning the Rumble and then facing and beating Punk for the title at Mania.
Enter McIntyre, who pushed the idea that since he had lost multiple times to Rhodes, that it would be better for him to win the title in the already announced Three Stages of Hell match. Rhodes was on board with that idea.
When the decision was made, they had to scrap Breakker winning the Rumble and the choices were either Rhodes or Reigns.”
Considering Bron Breakker is 28 years old, he likely has Royal Rumble victories in his future. At least this year, the win went to Roman Reigns.
As for Roman Reigns, he will challenge CM Punk for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
