WWE Celebrates Success Of SummerSlam

Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso, SummerSlam 2023

WWE has been bullish with the numbers coming out of SummerSlam, setting a number of company records in the process.

The ‘Hottest Show Of The Summer’ took place at Ford Field in Detroit, and was headlined by Roman Reigns once again successfully defending his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Jey Uso, with a little help from Jey’s brother Jimmy.

Elsewhere on the card, Logan Paul beat Ricochet in the opening match before heading off to support his brother Jake in his boxing match with Nate Diaz, Cody Rhodes won the rubber match with Brock Lesnar, and IYO SKY successfully cashed in her Money In The Bank briefcase to win the WWE Women’s Championship.

WWE has now released a number of the figures for the event, and it makes for impressive readings with a number of records broken for non-WrestleMania events.

What Were The Numbers Behind WWE SummerSlam?

For those in the building, the gate reached $8.5 million from the 59,194 who saw the spectacle live, marking the largest gate for any event outside of a WrestleMania. For those at home, the viewership on Peacock in the United States put the event in the top three WWE events on the network of all time.

There was also a 23% rise in sponsorship money, with the likes of Slim Jim, C4 and Rocket Mortgage contributing to the $7 million taken. Merchandise sales also made the most of non-WrestleMania events.
