How WWE Attitude Era Star Ended Up In The DA Office
A former WWE star underwent an interesting change of career.
Debra Marshall, better known to fans simply as Debra, starred as a track athlete and cheerleader in high school before becoming a flight attendant and winning the Mrs. Texas beauty pageant in 1992.
During this period, Marshall married NFL star Steve “Mongo” McMichael, and this led to her featuring on WCW television in late 1995 as he made his move from football to professional wrestling.
The star quickly became known as the “Queen of WCW” and accompanied McMichael to the ring for matches, before turning on him to align with Jeff Jarrett.
After the breakdown of her marriage to McMichael, Debra headed to the WWF in 1998 where she again linked up with Jarrett. She even went on to become Women’s Champion after beating Sable in an Evening Gown Match. The star was a regular on television until late 1999 when she went on hiatus while her real-life husband Steve Austin was recovering from neck surgery.
Debra returned the following year and became Mick Foley’s Lieutenant Commissioner, but was quickly paired with Austin and the duo worked together until she left the company in 2002. Her departure came against the backdrop of Austin’s arrest for domestic abuse, and the end of their marriage. Despite the incident, Steve Austin returned to work in 2003.
Debra Swapped WWE For Criminal Justice
During an appearance at Monopoly Events’ For The Love of Wrestling, Marshall reflected on her career in wrestling and revealed her life has taken a surprising turn since leaving the industry. This has seen her swap the world of headlocks and screaming crowds for the DA’s office in Louisiana.
“I ended up going to University of Alabama and I received a Bachelor [degree] and then I received a master of science in criminal justice. [Applause] From the University of Alabama, now I currently work for the District Attorney’s Office in New Orleans, Louisiana so it’s been an interesting journey from wrestling to what I do now.”
The event in Manchester, England also featured appearances from Sting, Mick Foley, and Lex Luger, while D’Lo Brown, Mark Henry, The Godfather, and Ron Simmons, reunited as the Nation of Domination.
