WWE Announces That Edge Had Surgery for Torn Triceps Following Backlash Match

TJR Wrestling

The rumors have been confirmed by WWE. There were rumors out there since yesterday (via Fightful) that Edge tore his triceps one of his arms when WWE taped his Backlash match against Randy Orton last Sunday. We didn’t hear about the injury until Sunday afternoon. Today, WWE revealed that it is true.

WWE Digital has confirmed that Edge suffered a torn triceps as a result of injuries sustained during The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever. Edge has undergone successful surgery and is currently rehabbing at home.

The Rated-R Superstar faced Randy Orton in a grueling test of in-ring skills at WWE Backlash. Both competitors were pushed to the brink, but The Viper prevailed over his former friend in the highly intense match.

Stay tuned to WWE digital and social platforms for more information as the story develops.

What we don’t know for sure is when the injury happened. It was mentioned by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that Edge and Orton went through their match last Sunday (June 7) and then they re-taped some spots. There is a theory that it happened when they re-filmed a spot where Edge jumped off the middle ropes into an RKO, but that’s not confirmed. We may never find out for sure.

The timeline for the recovery of the injury is unknown right now. It could be anywhere from six to eight months, so most likely that was Edge’s last match this year. We won’t know the length of absence unless Edge wants to provide that.

Here are some comments from Edge’s best friend Christian.

TJR Thoughts: It makes me sad that Edge got injured. He was probably going to wrestle anywhere from five to eight matches this year, but now that’s not going to happen and there’s a long rehab process for him. Edge is married to fellow WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix and they have two young daughters, so he’ll get to have a lot of quality time with them. Best wishes to Edge in his recovery from the injury.
