Wrestling Legend Believes Stone Cold Steve Austin Would Consider Another WWE Match
A former WWE superstar believes “Stone Cold” Steve Austin could step into the ring again under the right conditions.
It was “Austin 3:16” Day this past Monday, March 16th, and there was no sign of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin on Monday Night Raw. That’s not because of issues with WWE. It’s because Austin has moved on from pro wrestling and is doing other things in life.
After retiring as a full-time wrestler at WrestleMania 19 in 2003 at the age of 38, Steve Austin wrestled one more time 19 years later at WrestleMania 38 when he defeated Kevin Owens in the WrestleMania Saturday main event. It was promoted as a talk-show segment, the KO Show, that ended up becoming a match.
When he was interviewed on 3/16 about potentially having another match, Steve Austin made it clear that the in-ring chapter of his life is over.
“I still get asked about having a match every here and there and when I had that match with Kevin Owens a couple of years ago, they would have sent me down a ring so I could have got some timing and some wind and a lot of things so I could have a better match with Kevin Owens, but, yeah, and I’m done.
I mean, I could go out and do something. I’m not lobbying to do that. I guess it’s cool that people would still — and there’s a lot of people that don’t — so, the fact that people are still like, ‘Hey man, it would be cool to see him do something,’ I guess it’s an honor.
Matt Hardy Thinks Steve Austin Would Consider Another Match If It Were In A Tag Team
At 61, it’s easy to see why “Stone Cold” Steve Austin doesn’t plan to wrestle again. Matt Hardy was part of the WWE roster during the Attitude Era and was active when Austin had his last match as a full-timer in 2003, so he knows Austin fairly well.
While speaking on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt theorized that Stone Cold would wrestle again if he were in a tag-team match and there was less pressure on him.
“I would guess you have probably seen the end of it. I think Steve is one of those guys, like, if he cannot go out and feel like he is working on an appropriately high level, he probably is not going to do it.
I guess I could never say never. Maybe he would, you know. I feel like if you could put him in some sort of environment where he is in a tag team match or a six-man match, then maybe he would consider it. As far as going out there and going one-on-one with someone, I do not think he is going to do that again.
Matt Hardy isn’t claiming that Steve Austin will wrestle again, but he suggests that, in the right situation, Stone Cold might consider it. That’s why people often say “never say never” in the wrestling business.
“I feel very fortunate that I got to work with him and got to know him. Big fan of his work.”
The good news for WWE fans is that Steve Austin will be appearing at WWE World during WrestleMania 42 weekend in Las Vegas, so it’s possible that Stone Cold will appear at WrestleMania as well.
