Veteran Finally Reveals AEW Status Amid 13-Month Absence
This AEW star recently shared an update about his AEW future.
AEW star The Butcher (Real name: Andy Williams) was last seen performing on television in Feb 2025, where he lost to Gabe Kidd.
The Butcher’s tag team partner, The Blade, has been sidelined with a spine injury since early 2024 and even underwent surgery for it.
The Blade returned to the ring in 2025, and both men have since been wrestling in the independent circuit as a tag team.
The Butcher Reveals Current AEW Status
Williams revealed in an interview with Youngstown Radio that he and his teammate are still under contract with AEW.
He also said that the company doesn’t contact a wrestler until they need them to come back so they are awaiting the call.
Still under contract. That was the big thing, Blade had his back fused. As a tag team wrestler, how many times can you send a guy out there in singles matches and then they lose? You kind of have to shelve them.
I kind of understand and try to be humble, but it does seep into your head, ‘What did I do wrong?’ No one talks to you. It’s not like they are checking up on me every week going, ‘How are you doing, dude?’ It’s just, ‘We’ll call you when we need you.’ That is kind of a head fuck.
Despite these revelations, Williams said that he is happy that he’s getting paid every two weeks and that he is getting to team up with his now-recovered tag team partner in the indies as they wait for a return call from the Tony Khan-led promotion.
At the same time, I’m so grateful because I get paid every two weeks, and Blade is now healthy, so we can book indies. Just waiting for a call to return. Hopefully, it happens soon. I know there are a lot of injuries going on and that’s usually an indicator that they are probably going to bring some guys back who have been sitting.
Williams is also a musician and used to play guitar for the metalcore band “Every Time I Die” and now plays in the band “Atomic Rule”.
