There were two Tag Team Title matches at NXT Vengeance Day and both of them resulted in new champions being crowned.

The first WWE NXT Premium Live Event of 2023 took place on Saturday night and it was called Vengeance Day in Charlotte, North Carolina. With about 5,000+ fans in attendance at the Spectrum Center, it was a much bigger crowd than what most NXT performers are used to performing in front of at the much smaller WWE Performance Center where the weekly NXT TV show takes place.

In the match for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles, Kayden Carter & Katana Chance walked into the match as the champions for 186 days. It was the longest Women’s Tag Team Title reign in WWE across all of Raw, Smackdown and NXT since the Women’s Tag Team Titles returned to the company.

Unfortunately for Carter & Chance, their title reign ended at the hands of Kiana James & Fallon Henley. It was a controversial finish to the match with Henley sitting on top of Carter for the pinfall while James held onto Carter’s foot, which was not seen by the referee that counted to three to give Henley & James the win.

It’s important to note that in the storyline, Jame has been more of a heelish character while Henley is more of a babyface. James has cheated during matches to help her team win and that’s what happened here without Henley seeing it.

As for Carter & Chance, they were not happy about the cheating after the match.

In the men’s NXT Tag Team Title match, The New Day’s Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods had their three-month reign as champions come to an end when Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) hit a double team kick/powerslam on Xavier Woods for the pinfall win. The NXT Tag Team Title match was a Fatal 4-Way that also include Chase U (Andre Chase & Duke Hudson) and Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson & Elton Prince).

The match started out as a traditional fatal four-way tag team match with tags leading to nearfalls during the match, but then it turned into a chaotic matchup with all four teams coming close to winning at different points. Gallus put Duke Hudson through the commentary table at one point. After about 17 minutes of action, Gallus picked up the win.

Gallus left with the NXT Tag Team Titles, which is their first time winning those titles. As they like to say, the Gallus boys are on top.
