“Triple H Hand-Picked Me” – Ex-WWE Champion Makes Surprise Reveal About The Rock
A former WWE Tag Team Champion recalled how Triple H handpicked him to work with The Rock. The star in discussion is Brian Myers (fka Curt Hawkins).
Brian Myers joined the WWE back in 2007 and was there until 2014, under the name ‘Curt Hawkins,’ but he didn’t quite find too much success in the Stamford-based promotion. He also had a second run from 2016 to 2020, in which he held the tag team title once. Myers joined TNA after his second release and is still signed to the promotion as an active performer.
Back in 2011, the erstwhile Curt Hawkins was also tasked to train The Rock before his in-ring return after years. Rock returned to the ring with a tag team encounter at Survivor Series 2011, where he teamed with John Cena to take on the team of The Miz and R-Truth.
Ex-WWE star on how he was picked to train The Rock before his in-ring return
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, the ex-WWE star, Brian Myers recalled that Triple H and Johnny Ace hand-picked him and Joe Hennig (aka Curtis Axel) to train The Rock for his return to action:
I think Hunter and Johnny hand-picked me and Joe Hennig for that,” Myers disclosed.
Brian Myers also revealed his conversation with Johnny Ace about the same:
He hosted the Mania, and he was around, but then he was gonna do that tag in The Garden, and they said he wanted to train. Johnny Ace called me on a Wednesday, and I’m like, oh, I’m getting fired, this is it. Then they were like, ‘Please hold for Joe Hennig.’ I’m like wtf? It was the weirdest. I actually was on the train going with who would become my wife, like, one of our first dates. So I was all like, what is happening? And then Johnny is like, ‘Yeah, Rock wants to train, and we picked you guys.”
Brian Myers further recalled his experience working with The Rock to train him:
It was an unbelievable experience, because, obviously, Dwayne’s schedule is something else, and we were his personal little crash test dummies. You just never knew. A couple times I flew to Miami in the morning, train with him in Miami, and then flew out of Miami, like my commute was Miami and back in a day.” [h/t chrisvanvliet.com]
Meanwhile, Brian Myers is the current TNA World Tag Team Champion alongside Bear Bronson.
