Transcript of Awesome Paul Heyman Promo to Big E on WWE Talking Smack (VIDEO)

There was a great segment on WWE Talking Smack that aired today on WWE Network. The co-hosts of Talking Smack are Kayla Braxton and Paul Heyman, whose official title is the Special Counsel of WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

In the closing moments of today’s edition of Talking Smack, Big E was a guest on the show. If you saw last night’s Smackdown (or read my review here) then you know that Big E lost a non-title match to Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn, who won the match by countout. It was a cheap win fitting for Sami’s heel persona.

Just to set this up, Big E was asked about the match and he basically said it was not the best night for him.

Here’s what Heyman said to Big E in the promo. Thanks to WrestlingInc for part of the transcript and I wrote some of it as well.

“It’s about damn time. It’s about damn time that this Big E came to the surface. This is the Big E we’ve all been waiting for. When I say ‘we all,’ I mean every single member of the production team, Kayla [Braxton], and all of the contemporaries on the announcing staff, every member of the locker room, [even] Roman Reigns himself and I. We’ve all been waiting for this Big E because this is the Big E that one day goes into the WWE Hall of Fame.”

“This is the Big E that Kofi and Xavier brag about even knowing. I mean no disrespect towards Kofi and Xavier – you know how much I respect and admire them. But truth be told sir, the muscle…the muscle behind the New Day was always Big E. And now you have a champion in your sights, which means you have a championship in your sights. Sami (Zayn) is the best first step in that direction for you because, believe me sir when I tell you, a champion is only as good as the challengers he puts down.”

“This Big E, a focused Big E, a singles championship minded Big E, has so much potential that 10 years from now, they will all say that the accomplishments that you did with The New Day pale by the respectful comparison to the accomplishments you pull off on your own.”

“I say that to you with the following proviso: What you accomplish in the next ten years will be mind-boggling sir and I’m looking forward to seeing it as is everybody else. But you have to accept in your heart that The New Day will only be a footnote in the story of the greatness of Big E. And if I may prove my case to you, I ask you a rhetorical question: When was the last time you saw Roman Reigns in the ring, and anybody even bothered to mention The Shield?”

Big E didn’t say a word. There was a long pause for about 20 seconds. Kayla Braxton said she didn’t know how to move on. Heyman told her to say “we’ll see you next week” so she did and that was the end of the show.

TJR Thoughts: Heyman is so great in a spot like that. I’ve been saying for a few months now that I think Big E is a guy that WWE should push all the way to the top as the guy that beats Roman Reigns for the Universal Title, but I don’t know if WWE is going to go that route. In the short term, we know it’s Big E going after the Intercontinental Title held by Sami Zayn and who knows when or if Big E targets Reigns. The point by Heyman was very true in that people don’t talk about The Shield much when it comes to Reigns because he is a proven entity on his own. You can say the same thing about Seth Rollins too. In a few years, we might be able to say that about Big E with New Day, so Heyman’s point is that it’s up to Big E to prove that.
