Tony Khan Reveals When Adam Copeland Reached Out To AEW

Tony Khan has given some details on when negotiations to get Adam Copeland in AEW began.

After a legendary 25-year career in WWE as Edge, Copeland shocked the wrestling world by debuting in AEW at WrestleDream on October 1st.

Following the main event, the Rated-R Superstar came to the rescue of Sting and Darby Allin as they were being attacked by his longtime friend Christian Cage as well as Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne.

Copeland had his last WWE match on the August 18th edition of SmackDown, defeating Sheamus to bring his time there to a close. Speculation on the Hall of Famer’s future went into overdrive before the final bell even rang, but at the time the thought was that his contract expired on September 30th, so while the WrestleDream appearance was technically possible, getting a contract in place would be difficult at best.

In fact, Adam Copeland has since revealed that his deal expired on September 21st, and Tony Khan has now spoken about when he reached out to All Elite Wrestling.

During an appearance on CBS Sports’ ‘Maggie and Perloff’, the AEW President said the former Edge moved fast, contacting the company “soon after Grand Slam”, which took place across the September 20th edition of Dynamite and Rampage on the 22nd.

“Not long after AEW Grand Slam, we had Adam Copeland reach out, he was out of contract. He is one of the most popular and one of the most successful wrestlers of all time. To have Adam Copeland in AEW is a huge deal for us.”

When will Adam Copeland have his first AEW match?

Copeland has now made appearances on both Dynamite and Collision, and his first match for the company is set to take place on the ‘Title Tuesday’ edition of Dynamite on October 10th.

On the show, he will take on Christian’s ally, Luchasaurus. The star has spoken about the upcoming confrontation, saying he thinks the only dinosaur wrestling today is “money.”

“To get in there with a guy who I have watched and always thought is money, just needed the seasoning. He’s been getting that seasoning by sitting at the hand of Christian. There is no way you’re not going to learn. It just going to happen, even if you don’t ask questions, which he does.”
