Tomohiro Ishii Replaced On Forbidden Door

Tomohiro Ishii

Despite only having his place at Forbidden Door confirmed recently, Tomohiro Ishii has been replaced in the All-Atlantic Championship match this Sunday.

Earlier this week, Tomohiro Ishii defeated Clark Connors using a lariat followed by a brainbuster, to add him to the match to determine the inaugural title holder on 26th June.

However, it has since been confirmed on the official AEW Twitter account that Ishii was injured during the contest, and will not be medically cleared to compete. Further, it was announced that the man he defeated, Clark Connors, would be his replacement in the match.

Tomohiro Ishii was injured in his AEW #AllAtlantic Title NJPW Eliminator Tournament match with @ClarkConnors. With Ishii not medically cleared, he forfeits & Connors will now go to #ForbiddenDoor on Sunday to face #Miro, #PAC & @malakaiblxck to crown the 1st All-Atlantic Champion

New Japan Pro Wrestling then gave a little more clarity to the situation, confirming that Tomohiro Ishii is dealing with a left knee injury.

It has been an injury-plagued build-up to the historic Forbidden Door event, with wrestlers from both AEW and NJPW being forced to withdraw. One of the first was current AEW World Champion CM Punk, who announced on the 3rd June edition of Rampage that he would be unable to compete, and that an interim World Champion would be crowned in the meantime.

Another competitor who has recently confirmed that he would not be in a match at Forbidden Door was Bryan Danielson, who confirmed on the go-home edition of Dynamite that he would not be taking part in his scheduled match against Zack Sabre Jr. Although an opponent has seemingly been set, Danielson will not be announcing who it is until the night of the show.
