Seth Rollins Discusses Cody Rhodes Possibly Challenging For WWE World Title

Seth Rollins admits that he would like to face Cody Rhodes with the WWE World Title on the line even though their matches didn’t go Seth’s way in the past.

One of the best WWE rivalries of 2022 was the trilogy of matches between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. It started at WrestleMania 38 when Seth was told he would be facing a mystery opponent, which was Cody. They had a great match that Cody won in his WWE return match after six years away.

The rivalry continued at WrestleMania Backlash with Cody beating Seth yet again. Their third and final match took place at Hell in a Cell inside the Hell in a Cell structure with Cody wrestling the match while having a torn right pectoral muscle.

Even though he was in excruciating pain, Cody won again in what was a Match of the Year contender. Rollins attacked Cody after the match and Cody was gone for the next seven months to have surgery and repair the injury.

A lot has changed for Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes since their 2022 rivalry ended over one year ago. Cody got to main event WrestleMania 39 with Roman Reigns, but he’s not holding a major championship, yet Seth is.

While Cody is as popular as ever, Seth is as well and it’s not just because of his song. Seth is performing at an extremely high level as the first WWE World Heavyweight Champion while Cody has been feuding with Brock Lesnar since WrestleMania.

On the July 3rd edition of Raw, after Seth “Freakin” Rollins beat Finn Balor at Money in the Bank and Cody Rhodes beat Dominik Mysterio at the same show, it was Cody interrupting Rollins to start the show. Before they could say anything, Brock Lesnar showed up to get into a brawl with Cody. It was a nice tease of the Seth-Cody rivalry renewed, but it didn’t happen.

During an interview with USA Today, Seth Rollins spoke about his mindset as the World Heavyweight Champion.

“We’re defending it in every city in every town all across the world. It’s going to be everywhere I’m going to be. Anytime that title can be defended, it will be defended and I’ll be there to defend it.”

When Cody Rhodes was mentioned as a potential challenger, Seth Rollins clearly was open to that idea.

“I would love for Cody Rhodes come try to take it from me. If he can survive Brock Lesnar, I would love for him to try to. I’m better than I’ve ever been; he don’t stand a chance.”

Fans will have to wait for another Seth Rollins-Cody Rhodes match because at SummerSlam, Seth will likely be against Balor again while Cody is expected to have some sort of gimmick match with Lesnar to try to put an end to that rivalry.
