Santino Marella has his sights set on how he could pay tribute to his time with Beth Phoenix in WWE by working with an IMPACT Wrestling star.
At IMPACT Wrestling Hard To Kill in January 2023, Santino Marella made his return to wrestling television as he was appointed as the company’s Director Of Authority. Quickly interjecting himself in the match between Moose and Joe Hendry, he’s already created some unique moments in his short run including bringing Ernest ‘The Cat’ Miller in for one episode.
However, it’s his time in WWE which most will know of Marella from, and particularly his run alongside Beth Phoenix where the pair were known as Glamarella.
In a new interview with Metro UK, Santino Marella has discussed how special that period of his career was and how fondly he thinks of Phoenix.
I knew Beth from OVW. I love Beth to death, her and her husband [Edge], they’re just awesome people. When two people really get wrestling, they get [the idea of] working together, they get the notion of making the people you work with look better and in turn you look better. She’s a very giving person, and that’s why we were comfortable giving each other as much as we could because we knew it would be reciprocated. She’s obviously a Hall of Famer, she’s amazing, man.
Continuing on, Marella has admitted he’d like to run a similar storyline in IMPACT Wrestling with Jordynne Grace – although there is one obstacle in the way.
I wouldn’t mind doing something, kind of like a tribute to that moving forward with Jordynne Grace. Her [husband Jonathan Gresham is] there so it’s kind of awkward.
Whilst he may now be back on our screens, Santino Marella won’t be back in action and recently discussed the injury which forced him to retire from active competition.
