Rusev gets candid about this controversial storyline involving his wife, Lana

In 2019, Lana (CJ Perry) was in a storyline relationship with Bobby Lashley. This came soon after Rusev returned to WWE TV in September that year.

Lana’s affair with Lashley began after she revealed that her marriage to Rusev was an “unhappy” one.

The two were slated to get married on WWE TV, but the ceremony would be interrupted by Liv Morgan.

Morgan crashed the wedding and declared her love for Lana, pointing to a secret romantic relationship between them and claiming that Lana had left her for Lashley.

Rusev would pop out of the wedding cake to attack Lashley, and the wedding would end in a brawl. The storyline was dropped soon after.

During his appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, Rusev explained the reason he agreed to the storyline.

He was pitched the story with the incentive that the feud would lead to a WrestleMania match.

WrestleMania match. That’s how it was pitched to me. I said, Great, I can deal with that. We just never got there. But it was a good story. I understood the story. It was not my favorite story, but I understood it. And when they told me what the final goal was, I said, All right, that sounds good to me. We have a direction, we have a dip, we have a comeback. We have a good story to finish it.
