The first name has been announced for the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame: Rey Mysterio.

During his incredible career, Rey Mysterio has done it all in WWE as a three-time WWE World Champion, the 2006 Royal Rumble winner and the man that many consider the greatest masked wrestler in company history.

In addition to his WWE career that started in 2002, Rey also had a lot of success in other places like WCW, ECW and in Mexico as well.

The inclusion of Rey Mysterio in this year’s WWE Hall of Fame may come off as a bit of a surprise since he’s an active wrestler. However, Rey certainly deserves it after a nearly 30-year career that is still going at the age of 48. Rey also is from San Diego, California so inducting him into the Hall of Fame in a year when WWE is in Los Angeles for it is a smart move since Rey’s family and friends can be in attendance.

On the March 10th edition of Smackdown in Pittsburgh, Rey made his way down to the ring after the video aired for his Hall of Fame induction video aired. Just when Rey was about to speak, his son Dominik Mysterio and The Judgment Day interrupted.

Dominik Mysterio told his father that he didn’t belong in the WWE Hall of Fame. Dominik said that Rey deserved to be in the Deadbeat Dad Hall of Fame. This would lead to a match between The Judgment Day beating Legado del Fantasma with Dominik getting the win for his team.

After the match, Dominik once again tried to get his father Rey to hit him. Rey wouldn’t do it, but he did avoid a charging Dominik, who bumped to the floor.

It is expected that Rey Mysterio will face his son Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania 39 in three weeks. It’s not official yet.

Here’s what WWE wrote about Rey Mysterio on their website for his Hall of Fame induction that’s taking place on Friday, March 31st in Los Angeles after Smackdown.

Tonight on Friday Night SmackDown it was announced that Rey Mysterio will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Class of 2023.

The Master of the 619 has had an illustrious career, having notable encounters in not only WWE but also ECW, AAA, CMLL, NJPW, and WCW.

In WWE, he won numerous accolades, including the 2006 Royal Rumble, the World Heavyweight Championship twice and the WWE Championship once. He is also a Triple Crown and Grand Slam Champion.

Mysterio had an abundance of memorable moments and rivalries, including his battles with Eddie Guerrero, Batista, Kurt Angle, Cody Rhodes and Edge, to name a few.
