Rey Mysterio Reunites With Ex-WWE Rival
Rey Mysterio has reflected on his rivalry with one of the biggest WWE superstars ever.
It was in the summer of 2002 when Rey Mysterio’s WWE career began. At that point, Rey was already a household name for a lot of wrestling fans after having a successful run in ECW that led to even more success in WCW as one of the greatest cruiserweights in the history of that company.
The first WWE pay-per-view that Rey Mysterio competed at was the legendary SummerSlam 2002 event when he competed against fellow WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle. That match is memorable because of how fast-paced it was as Angle managed to wear down Rey and make him tap out to an Ankle Lock in ten minutes.
In a social media post, Kurt Angle shared a photo with Mysterio along with the caption: “Hanging out with one of my favorite opponents of all time… @reymysterio Love ya Rey!”
Rey Mysterio went on Instagram to show some love for Angle as well.
So great seeing & chopping it up wit u Kurt!
No Cap,,,, Doing playback today from Summer Slam 2002 took me back to a very special time in my career.
Wanna thank you for trusting and choosing me as your opponent to kick off my very first @wwe ppv, with instant chemistry that lead to incredible magic that became a beautiful friendship still to this day!
Honored & truly blessed to have shared so many memorable moments!!!
🙏🏼 love u Kurt & #YouSuck 🫶🏼
Rey Mysterio Wants To Team Up With His Son Again
In his current WWE role, Rey Mysterio is leading the LWO group on the Raw brand. For over two years, his son Dominik Mysterio has been against him, but Rey has made it clear he wants to team up with his son again.
“That’s something that as a father, they always would love to have with their kids. To be able to reconnect. And end of how you started on the good side. So, I don’t know if that’s going to happen. But over the years, people change. Sometimes for good, sometimes for bad.
Hopefully, one day Dom can see the bright side of being on the Mysterios’ side. And just being family overall. But I think that’s going to be very hard. I’m dreaming. I am just dreaming.”
Before Dominik turned on his father, Rey & Dom were the first father-son duo to become Tag Team Champions in WWE history.
