Rey Mysterio has given his first public reaction after a former WWE and UFC star was released from prison.

In late February 2022, former WWE and UFC star Cain Velasquez was arrested after allegedly going on a high-speed car chase that ended with him shooting at a man named Harry Goularte, who’d recently been charged with molesting Velasquez’s son. The Goularte’s stepfather ended up being shot in the incident, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. Velasquez was charged with attempted murder for the incident and incarcerated in the Santa Clara County Jail.

Velasquez pleaded no contest to felony attempted murder, assault, and multiple weapons-related charges in August 2024, and on March 24th, he was sentenced.

Cain Velasquez was sentenced to five years in prison but will be credited with time already served. The amount served amounts to around three and a half years, counting both time in prison and time spent at home with an ankle monitor.

Now, Velasquez has been released from prison on parole, and it seems Rey Mysterio is pleased that he’s got some semblance of freedom again, as he wrote on social media:

Welcome back home @officialcainvelasquez 💯Respeto 🙏🏼

Cain Velasquez became UFC Heavyweight Champion when he defeated Brock Lesnar in 2010. He made his pro wrestling debut in 2019 for AAA and found himself in WWE in a matter of months. He once again squared off against Brock Lesnar as part of Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. Cain Velasquez was released from WWE in April 2020 as a result of budget cuts.
