Rey Fenix Responds To WWE Speculation

Rey Fenix entrance on AEW Dynamite

Rey Fenix has hit back at those speculating about his future.

Back in September, it was reported that AEW was looking to add injury time to Rey Fenix’s contract in order to keep him tied to the company. This was followed by further updates that confirmed his deal runs well into 2025.

Despite this, the company has no plans to use the star on television, with his last match coming on July 20th.

Fenix and his brother and tag team partner Penta have been linked with WWE for several months, but it seems their road to the sports entertainment giant won’t be an easy one.

Rey Fenix Looking To Remain Professional

In a post on social media, Fenix responded to the renewed speculation commenting “professionalism is first and foremost” before adding there are things that should “always be respected.”

“There are many things that are not known, but that also should not be talked about. We must wait. Professionalism first and foremost, folks. We must not be the same as all those podcasts that go around spitting out what should not be spit out. Never diminish our work. There are things that should always be respected, and many are forgetting everything that wrestling has given them.”

The comments came just hours before it was confirmed by Fightful Select that Penta’s contract with AEW has now expired. The star is now “effectively a free agent” and subject to heavy interest from the independent scene where several marquee matches potentially await.

With regard to Fenix, AEW has taken a similar approach with Ricky Starks, ensuring he remains with the company for the foreseeable future, despite having no plans to use him. Not only is Starks being kept on the sidelines, but the company actually took up an option on his contract in the spring to keep him All Elite until summer 2025.
