Return Of Injured WWE Star Teased On Raw

A big-time return could be set for the near future on Monday Night Raw after Tommaso Ciampa’s comeback was apparently teased by one WWE star.

The WWE Draft saw big changes to the rosters of Raw, SmackDown, and NXT and one of the results has been the chance for a reunion of The Way.

Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae, Indi Hartwell, Austin Theory, and Dexter Lumis comprised the group in its previous incarnation on NXT as they went from hated villains to beloved fan favorites. Since that spell, Gargano, LeRae, and Lumis have all left WWE before returning while Hartwell climbed the ranks in NXT eventually becoming NXT Women’s Champion. Theory has found a lot of success on the main roster and is the current US Champion.

The WWE Draft left Gargano, LeRae, Hartwell, and Lumis all on Raw while the villainous Theory couldn’t be part of any reunion due to being drafted to SmackDown. On Raw in Jacksonville, Florida, the four members of The Way reunited in a backstage segment where they refused to sign Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville’s petition for a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match.

Gargano seemed to hint at a big return as he noted that “he’s coming back soon” but that didn’t sound like good news for his wife Candice LeRae. The “he” many expect Gargano to be referring to is Tommaso Ciampa who has been out of action since September 2022 after undergoing hip surgery.

Ciampa and Gargano began life in NXT as #DIY and eventually won the NXT Tag Team Championship. At NXT TakeOver Chicago when the two men failed to regain the championship from Authors of Pain, Ciampa viciously turned on Gargano in one of the most shocking moments in the history of the brand.

The two men then went to war in a series of matches before reuniting which then led to Gargano turning on Ciampa in 2020. Candice LeRae helped her husband throughout that feud and it’s little surprise that she might have reservations about Ciampa becoming part of their life again. It should be noted that Ciampa was not part of the recent WWE Draft so could return on either brand.
