A new report has claimed that Randy Orton may be out of action for the remainder of 2022 after it was discovered that he could need surgery.

Randy Orton hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since the May 20th episode of SmackDown. On the show, Orton and his RK-Bro partner Riddle took on The Usos in a clash to determine WWE’s Undisputed Tag Team Champions.

After a hard-fought match, it was The Usos – with the aid of Roman Reigns – who emerged victorious and solidified their place at the top of the WWE tag division.

Following the match, The Bloodline continued their assault on RK-Bro, leaving Orton unconscious after being hit with the ring steps and sending Riddle crashing through through the announce table.

WWE later posted an update on Randy Orton’s condition on social media, saying that he was undergoing consultations with surgeons.

“Randy Orton is currently undergoing consultations with neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons to determine the extent of his injury and to recommend course of treatment.”

Fightful Select has now reported that WWE is concerned that Orton could be out of action for the rest of the year. The Viper has seemingly been dealing with a back injury for several months and had “work” done prior to the match on May 20th. It is unclear as to what treatment he had.

Unfortunately, the injury has been getting progressively worse, and he may now require surgery. A WWE source confirmed that, if this is the case, then the 14-time World Champion would be out of the rest of the year.

At the time of writing, Randy Orton isn’t factored into any creative plans going forward and was noted on a recent internal injury report.

Prior to his injury, to had been reported that Orton would be facing Roman Reigns in a blockbuster main event at SummerSlam on July 30th.

The news is a further blow to WWE’s main event scene, as it has been announced that Cody Rhodes will be out for nine months following surgery on a torn pectoral tendon.
