Why Nixon Newell Thinks AEW Would Have Her Back Despite Walkout
Could an AEW return really be on the cards for one star who walked out of a show?
After making their AEW debut as a team on the October 25th 2025 edition of Collision, Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize climbed into the ring to face Marina Shafir and Megan Bayne. When all was said and done, Shafir and Bayne picked up the win in under two and a half minutes.
On November 8th, Newell and Alize were set to compete for a second time against Anna Jay and Tay Melo, but the match never made it to the ring. Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize reportedly refused to lose for a second week in a row and left the taping. Reports later suggested that Newell and Alize were unhappy at having another three-minute match, rather than being upset over losing.
They were quickly replaced by Hyan and Maya World, who did what was asked of them. They made such an impression that they have since both been signed by Tony Khan, making it a real “what might have been” situation for Newell and Alize.
But that door isn’t closed.
Nixon Newell Thinks AEW Return Could Happen
Speaking with The Wrestling Classic, Nixon Newell claimed that the door for an AEW return is still open and said it was only those dreaded dirt sheets that made it such a negative story:
When we left, it wasn’t like we stormed out. It was an understanding on both sides of ‘Yeah, okay, cool. No worries. We get it,’ and then we were like, ‘Okay, cool. Thank you for the opportunity.’ It was never anything negative until the dirt sheets made it negative.
It wasn’t even a disagreement. We were given what we were given. We did it the week before, and we were promised something else. They said ‘Okay.’ It didn’t come to fruition, and we just said, ‘Okay, cool,’ and they went, ‘Okay, we totally understand. Thanks for coming. We totally appreciate it.’ It was very civilized on both sides.
Newell reiterated her previous claim that there were “no negative feelings on either side” and that “it wasn’t meant to be.”
