Nick Khan reportedly lied about massive plans involving Cody Rhodes.

Ever since Cody Rhodes returned to WWE, he has been clear that his goal was to finish his story and win the WWE Championship held by Roman Reigns at the time. He first won the 2023 Royal Rumble and earned the right to face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship. However, Cody lost to the OTC.

The American Nightmare did the unthinkable and won the Royal Rumble match against next year. Just when it looked like he was going to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship, he seemingly gave his spot to The Rock so that the latter could have the dream match fans have been waiting for a long time.

However, the public backlash online was huge. Many sections of the fans were unhappy to see Cody Rhodes give up his spot to The Rock, and they turned on The Great One. The backlash was so huge that it forced WWE to pivot and change plans. Eventually, Cody reclaimed his WrestleMania 40 spot and defeated Roman Reigns to win his first Undisputed WWE Championship. During WWE’s WrestleMania 40: Behind The Curtains documentary, The Rock himself admitted that they were forced to change their plans for WrestleMania 40 due to fan backlash. However, during an interview with Sports Business Journal, Nick Khan claimed that Cody facing Roman at WrestleMania 40 was always the plan. This was reportedly a lie.

Nick Khan lied about Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns’ match at WrestleMania 40

According to a report from Fightful Select, Nick Khan lied about the WrestleMania 40 main event. The report noted that Cody Rhodes even admitted that if fans found out what the actual plan for WrestleMania 40 was, they would’ve been angrier. However, it is still not known what those original plans were.

“Nick Khan lied to Sports Business Journal about the WWE WrestleMania 40 main event. Both publicly and privately, Cody Rhodes and others had said that if the fans knew what the actual plan was going to be with him at WrestleMania 40, they would have been even more angry. Fightful Select still has not learned exactly what that plan would have been, but it certainly was changed.” [H/T Fightful]

It turned out to be the right decision to have Roman Reigns defend his title against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.
