MJF Takes Massive Shot At WWE After Controversial AEW Moment
MJF used a viral AEW moment to take a shot at WWE.
The AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman was in the ring on AEW Dynamite this past Wednesday in Las Vegas when a viral moment happened.
As his match with Brody King was about to begin, the Las Vegas fans chanted “F**k ICE” repeatedly for several seconds. The referee, Bryce Remsburg, waited a few seconds before ringing the bell.
The “ICE” the Dynamite crowd was referring to was the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which has been in the news for the wrong reasons at the start of 2026. Since AEW’s Brody King has worn an “Abolish ICE” shirt in the past, fans showed him support while also supporting people who oppose ICE’s policies.
When MJF was asked about the incident by Ross Tucker of DraftKings Network, the World Champion used it as an example of how AEW is different than other wrestling companies (like WWE) because if it happened in WWE, the swear word would be quickly censored.
“Literally last night, we were in Vegas and they started a F**k ICE chant. Now, I don’t care what side of the political line that you land on, there’s no other wrestling promotion that wouldn’t censor the fans. We don’t do that, we’re the listening company.
So, if all the fans want to chant that, we’re going to let them chant that. I think that is inherently really cool and awesome. I think that’s what makes my company special. We don’t censor the fans. It’s nice, it’s very nice.” (H/T Fightful)
MJF Will Defend AEW World Title At Grand Slam Australia
The non-title match between MJF and King did not go well for the World Champion because “Hangman” Adam Page appeared on the ramp to start the match. That distracted MJF, which led to King hitting a few big moves, including a Ganzo Bomb, and pinned MJF.
Thanks to that victory, Brody King has been awarded an AEW World Title match against MJF at the AEW Grand Slam Australia event.
AEW Grand Slam Australia takes place on February 14th from Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. It airs in the usual AEW Collision timeslot at 8 p.m. ET on TNT and HBO Max. Here’s the lineup.
* AEW World Championship: MJF (c) vs. Brody King
* AEW Continental Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita
* AEW World Title #1 Contenders Match: “Hangman” Adam Page vs. Andrade El Idolo
* Loser Gets Their Head Shaved: Orange Cassidy & Toni Storm vs. Marina Shafir & Wheeler Yuta – Whoever takes the fall in the match will have their head shaved.
* AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship: Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron vs. Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford
The winner of the “Hangman” Adam Page/Andrade El Idolo match will face the winner of the MJF/Brody King match for the AEW World Title at the AEW Revolution PPV in March.
