Massive Announcement On Will Ospreay’s Future; But Not In AEW

Will Ospreay is headed back to a familiar place for a big match, but it won’t be in an AEW ring. 

The former AEW International Champion Will Ospreay returned to the ring on the March 18th edition of Dynamite after undergoing neck surgery in September 2025.

While Ospreay made his return to an AEW ring, he has also been announced for an upcoming NJPW show, Sakura Genesis, on April 4th, 2026. The official NJPW website has officially promoted Ospreay in a 6-man tag team match.

Sakura Genesis on April 4 has received a huge addition to the card, as Will Ospreay will be in action, wrestling in an NJPW ring for the first time since New Beginning in Osaka 2024.

Appearing at New Year Dash in January, Ospreay addressed Callum Newman, saying that he wanted to return in support of the Prince and ‘do things your way’. Now, on a night where Newman faces Yota Tsuji for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in the main event, Ospreay meets the man Callum beat in the New Japan Cup final in Yuya Uemura alongside two early members he brought into United Empire: HENARE and co-founder Great-O-Khan. Prior to signing with AEW, Ospreay worked for NJPW for nearly a decade and is a former IWGP World Champion.

Will Ospreay Going For Championship Gold At AEW Dynasty

On the March 25th edition of AEW Dynamite, Will Ospreay was featured in a promo video challenging AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley to a match at the AEW Dynasty PPV on April 12th. It was Moxley and his Death Riders group who attacked Ospreay in August 2025 to set up the storyline that led to Ospreay’s neck surgery.

Later in the show, Moxley accepted Ospreay’s match challenge, and the match was made official for Dynasty.

The next AEW PPV is Dynasty on Sunday, April 12th. Here’s the lineup so far.
