Update On What Might Main Event AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door

It could be a highly anticipated dream match in the main event of AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door or perhaps a championship rematch.

The AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view will take place this Sunday, June 25th from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

There are several championship matches on the show that will see AEW stars defending titles against NJPW wrestlers and vice versa.

Two of the most exciting matches on the show is the dream match between former WWE Champion Bryan Danielson and former IWGP World Champion Kazuchika Okada. They are two men that have been part of many “best in the world” discussions by wrestling fans over the last 20 years, and in Okada’s case, especially in the last decade.

Kenny Omega will defend the IWGP US Championship against Will Ospreay in a Wrestle Kingdom 17 rematch. On a card without many storylines, that’s a match that feels personal due to the long history of bickering between them and the fact that Omega took the title from Ospreay earlier this year.

So what goes on last? That’s something fans have likely debated a lot in the last few weeks. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio commented on it.

“With every Tony [Khan] show, you know, every Tony pay-per-view. That’s when you look at the match order, it’s always difficult because, you know, there’s theories and, and stuff. And I mean, this is an interesting one because I…No one has said this, but on TV they kept pushing the idea that Okada and Danielson was the main event. Which leads to the idea that they’re going on last.”

“I know that some have talked about Ospreay and Omega going on last. But it’s not MJF and Tanahashi and I don’t think anyone thinks MJF and Tanahashi is going on last, but that is how many fans think that, like, ‘Oh, MJF, the AEW Champion is going last.’ And in this one, I do not think that.”

The full lineup for AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door looks like this. Keep in mind there are two hours of AEW Collision tonight so the card is subject to change.
