Kenny Omega Will Face Will Ospreay At NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

At New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 17, Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay will square off.

The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks — Matt and Nick Jackson) made their All Elite Wrestling return at their Full Gear pay-per-view event after being away from the company for two months, taking on Death Triangle in an AEW Trios Championship after a huge pop from the crowd. However, it wouldn’t end well for The Elite, as Death Triangle retained their titles.

This wasn’t the end of the night for Omega, though, handing out another challenge after AEW Full Gear.

Just a few hours after All Elite Wrestling’s pay-per-view, the semi-main event of NJPW x STARDOM Historic X-Over saw Shota Umino take on Will Ospreay for his IWGP United States Championship. The match ended up being a tough back-and-forth for both competitors, but Ospreay held on to retain his belt.

As Ospreay was celebrating his championship victory, the arena lights went out and Kenny Omega popped up on the video screen, which officially marked his first sighting in NJPW since leaving the company for AEW nearly four years ago.

With Omega sitting on a throne, he made the claim that Will Ospreay is his “replacement” and that he is the result of small crowds in the promotion that are worse than the COVID-19 pandemic. Omega then went on to say that he was going to save NJPW, and challenged Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom 17 — Ospreay accepted.
