John Cena Talks WWE Future, Knows End Is “Soon”
John Cena isn’t shy about admitting that he is close to the end of his WWE career.
In a perfect world, no wrestler would ever retire and stars from the past can keep going forever. However, it’s not a perfect world and everybody gets older. Everybody moves on no matter who you are.
On Smackdown in Hershey, PA, John Cena thanked the WWE fans for their love and support while also announcing that he will be the guest host of Payback tonight in Pittsburgh.
John Cena’s WWE career started in 2002 when he was 25 years old. Fast forward to today, after 21 years in the company, the 46-year-old former 16-time WWE World Champion is arguably the greatest superstar in the history of the company. Cena worked full-time in WWE until around 2018. Since then, he’s wrestled a few matches per year (only one in 2022) and he has admitted his body can’t take the pounding that it once did.
John Cena Admits The End Of WWE Career Is Coming Soon
Following his in-ring appearance, John Cena spoke to the WWE Digital team on YouTube about his future.
“Every single chance I get to go out there becomes more and more special. There is no denying the fact that I’m 46 and staring down 47. I’ve been here for over two decades. As I said out there in the ring, the last one is not tonight, but I know it’s soon. To speak candidly, when you’re involved in this every day in a full-time capacity, you just think about what’s next.”
“The WWE Universe being gracious to invite me and allow me back to be part of this family, for the last two or three years, I’ve been able to focus on what’s now. I never miss any of those wonderful moments in the ring. I know it may sound repetitive, but so is me saying ‘Never give up,’ and I never mind saying that, so I never mind saying ‘thank you’ to the people that make this special. Without them and them caring, I don’t get to come back.”
One match that apparently has been discussed during Cena’s return to WWE over these next two months is a showdown with Raw’s Cody Rhodes. It is something Cody has talked about in the past, so it’s unknown if it will actually happen or if it will just be a rumor as something that might happen down the road.
